Classroom Information

Our pre-kindergarten offers a transitional experience that extends the home and early childhood activities into the elementary school.  It is a flexible program which considers the developmental stages of children, as well as their individual differences.

Our primary goal is that of helping children become acquainted with God through a combined study of nature and the Scriptures.  Through this program children are stimulated physically, spiritually, intellectually, and socially.

While play and socialization are key elements of our program, the children are also introduced to more "formal learning" than in preschool or child care.  Class work will be executed in a more organized and independent manner.

In our Christ-centered environment young learners can develop self-confidence, cooperation skills, a natural love for learning, and a personal relationship with God.

The combining of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten means that there will be times when both groups will be taught together and times when they are taught separate.  Bible, Science, and Social Studies are combined.  Math, Phonics, Reading, and Writing are separate.

During Math, Phonics, Reading, and Writing Class, Pre-K will be together as one group, and Kindergarten students will make up another group.   While I am working with one group the other students are either working on an activity separately at the blue tables or at a learning center.  We have the following centers:  Reading, Listening, Math, Writing, Science, Art, and Computer.  Students rotate throughout these centers daily and weekly.

In the afternoon students will get to attend special classes such as Art, Library, Computers, Music, and Physical Education.  Upon returning back to our class after specials the students will take part in a snack time, dramatic play center time, and a rest time.

During the year we will participate in several educational field trips.  These field trips will coincide with our Social Studies and Science program.  Also, our class will actively be involved in several outreach projects throughout the year.  We want to help to share God’s love with our community and our world.

Students in the PreK- Kindergarten classroom will get to enjoy hands-on learning in a safe, Christian environment.  We will work together as a family by cooperating, being considerate and treating each other with respect.

Come be a part of our Highland family and join the learning fun in the PreK-K classroom.  I look forward to getting to know you and working with your child each day.
